Netcare Umhlanga Hospital – ICU 1


A vacancy exists in the ICU 1 Department at Netcare Umhlanga Hospital for above position. The successful applicant will report directly to the Unit Manager.

Key inputs:

Administrative duties which include:  General Administration  Switchboard duties  Discharge / Transfer of patients  Create and update files  Complies monthly stats  Takes minutes at monthly meetings.  Controls stationary budget  Stock control  Perform a public relations function by liaising with patients, relatives, doctors and external organisations.  Liaising with laundry, maintenance and kitchen services  Assist Unit Managers with monitoring of off-duties, leave and cost containment.  Daily stock movement duties and administration (housekeeping, identifying slow moving stock, near-expiry stock);  Dispensing surgical stock Data capturing, packing of stock and replenishing stock  Preparation and participation in all aspects of a full stock take and monthly cyclical counts  Assisting Theatre with queries  Maintain a good interpersonal relationship with Pharmacy Department, nursing personal and unit manager.


Education:

 Matriculated (Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate) 

 Computer literacy 

 Secretarial experience would be an advantage 


Experience:

Computer literacy – able to use the in house computer software  Previous PA and stock control experience advantageous  Well versed with medical terminology  Have working knowledge of medicines and surgical appliances and accessories  Be equipped with good verbal and interpersonal communication skills  Be able to do preparation of full stock count  Have previous experience in handling of stock and stock related activities  Be prepared to work flexible hours/shift work when necessary. Previous experience with medical / pharmaceutical goods (advantageous)

 Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions  Ability to work effectively and co-operatively with others by establishing and maintaining good working relationships  Ability to display a good customer- focus by developing and sustaining productive customer relationships  Ability to prioritise by managing time and resources to ensure that work is completed effectively  Ability to produce work of a high quality standard by accurately checking processes and tasks  Strong administrative and organizational skills

Maintaining a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge by keeping abreast of current development and trends in the medical related field impacting on the post Ability to set high standards of performance for self and others to ensure the successful completion of assignments or tasks
